At the midpoint of the FCS schedule, only one thing is for sure: the five-time defending champions appear to be on a non-stop course for a record sixth straight title.

Top-ranked North Dakota State rolled Missouri State 27-3 at the Plaster Sports Complex in Springfield, MO. King Frazier rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns while the Bison (5-0, 2-0 MVFC) held the host Bears (3-2, 1-1 MVFC) to 176 yards of offense and 11 first downs on the day.

Josh Clemons rushed for 110 yards and three scores while quarterback Eli Jenkins compiled 243 yards of offense and a touchdown to pace second-ranked Jacksonville State to a 40-21 victory over Tennessee Tech at Burgess-Snow Field in Jacksonville, AL. Clemons scored all three of his touchdowns in the first half as the Gamecocks (4-1, 1-0 OVC) built a 33-7 lead at the break and Jacksonville State’s defense forced five Golden Eagles (2-4, 2-2 OVC) turnovers, including three interceptions of Tennessee Tech quarterback Michael Birdsong.

Corey Avery and Jeremiah Briscoe accounted for 8 touchdowns to lead #3 Sam Houston State past pesky Incarnate Word 63-48 at Benson Stadium in San Antonio. Avery rushed for 212 yards on 17 carries while Briscoe passed for 203 yards to keep the Bearkats (5-0, 4-0 Southland) undefeated on the season. Trent Brittain did his best to keep the Cardinals (1-5, 1-3 Southland) in the game, throwing for 258 yards and four scores and adding a rushing touchdown while Broderick Reeves rambled for 102 yards and a score.

Alejandro Bennifield passed for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth while Derrick Craine bruised his way to 160 yards and a score to lift fourth-ranked Chattanooga to a 52-31 win over Southern Conference foe Mercer at Finley Stadium. Bennefield tallied all four of his scoring strikes in the first half as the Mocs (6-0, 4-0 Southern) built a 38-3 lead at the half and never looked back. The Bears (2-3, 1-2 Southern) were led by wide receiver Marquise Irvin, who snared four balls for 139 yards and a touchdown.

Fifth-ranked Charleston Southern’s game with Division-2 Albany State (GA) was cancelled, due to Hurricane Matthew.

Elsewhere, #6 Eastern Washington defeated Northern Colorado 49-31 behind Gage Gibrud’s 435 passing yards and five touchdowns, The Citadel, ranked seventh, blasted Division-2 North Greenville 38-14, #8 Villanova walloped Rhode Island 35-0, #9 Richmond rallied to beat #17 Albany 36-30 in triple overtime and #10 Coastal Carolina was idle.

The highest ranked team to lose this week was #13 Northern Iowa, whose rally fell short in a 28-25 loss at South Dakota. In addition to the aforementioned #17 Albany losing to #9 Richmond, the only other ranked team to lose in Week 6 was #25 Cornell, who ended up on the short end of a 29-13 score at #23 Harvard.

With their losses, Northern Iowa and Cornell fall out of the rankings and are replaced by a pair of teams making their 2016 debuts: Grambling State (#24), who was idle, and Samford (#25), after crushing winless Furman, 38-21.
