2016 NFL Week 1 All-Time Top-50 Statistical Movement

With Week 1 of the 2016 season in the books, a pair of future Hall of Famers moved closer towards certain enshrinement in Canton, OH.

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald became the tenth player in NFL history to record, at least, 100 touchdown receptions, reached the plateau on Sunday night in a 23-21 loss to the New England Patriots. The 13-year veteran from Pittsburgh had tied Hall of Famer and Green Bay Packers legend Don Hutson with his 99th scoring catch earlier in the contest and reached the century mark in the fourth quarter on a fade route toward the corner of the end zone. Fitzgerald caught eight passes for 81 yards against the Patriots, moving him past Isaac Bruce for 10th place in receptions (1,026) and into 14th place on the receiving yards list (13,447) ahead of Torry Holt. In addition, his 100th career touchdown tied Franco Harris and Curtis Martin for 22nd in total touchdowns while his 81 yards vaulted him into 36th position in yards from scrimmage (13,510), passing Holt and John Riggins.

Ben Roethlisberger put together another outstanding effort in front of a national audience during the lid-lifter of Monday night’s week-ending doubleheader. Roethlisberger completed 27 of 37 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 38-16 demolition of the Washington Redskins and leaped past big names in the history of the NFL. The 13-year vet from Miami (OH) moved past Kerry Collins for 12th in completions (3,503), Hall of Famer Dan Fouts for 12th in passing yards (43,295) and passed Hall of Famer Joe Montana while tying Vinny Testaverde for 12th in touchdown passes (275). Roethlisberger, also, became the first quarterback in league history to complete, at least, 500 passes to three different teammates: Hines Ward, Heath Miller and Antonio Brown.

Meanwhile, a new name appeared in the league’s all-time top-50 statistical lists: DeAngelo Williams. The 11-year running back from Memphis rushed for a pair of scores in Pittsburgh’s win at Washington. moving him past Mike Alstott and Jamal Lewis for 50th place with 59 touchdowns.
