Drew Briggs, Josh Soares and Quint Bonin scored their first Chieftains goals as Ponaganset stayed undefeated with a 10-0 win over East Providence.

(Burrillville, RI)  Ethan Sederback and Josh D’Alessio, each, scored a pair of goals and Ponaganset’s defense limited East Providence to, only, six shots on net as the undefeated Chieftains pummeled the Townies 10-0 at Levy Arena in Rhode Island Division III hockey.

It took Ponaganset (7-0-0) just over a minute of play to light the lamp as co-captain Sederback beat East Providence (0-8-0, 0-10-0) goalie Richard Costa for his second goal of the season, assisted by Matt Meinertz. Ryan Watts notched his seventh goal off a Jake Lincourt assist at the 6:14 mark and Lincourt tallied an unassisted power play goal, his fourth tally, 3:36 before intermission for a 3-0 Chieftains lead.

The high-flying Chieftains opened the second period with a fury as D’Alessio scored his 10th goal of the campaign 40 seconds into the stanza with Drew Briggs credited with an assist. 17 seconds later, Meinertz extended the lead to 5-0 with an unassisted goal, giving the freshman six goals on the 2015-2016 season. Sederback tallied his third goal, unassisted, only 15 seconds later. Ponaganset extended the lead to 7-0 at the 6:14 mark as Josh Soares scored his first high school goal, unassisted. Briggs notched the first goal of his Ponaganset career just over a minute later with Watts and Matt Carlson receiving helpers and D’Alessio finished off the six-goal outburst with less than six minutes left on the second-period scoreboard with his 11th goal, assisted by Soares.

Quint Bonin joined Soares and Briggs in lighting the lamp for the first time in a Chieftains uniform, two minutes into the final period, with Carlson and Briggs picking up their second assists of the evening to cap the scoring.

Curtis Briggs and freshman Braedyn DeMarco turned aside all six shots they faced with DeMarco denying four Townies attempts in his high school debut. Costa toughed it out for the full 45 minutes for East Providence, stopping 26 of 36 Chieftains shots on goal.

Ponaganset returns to the friendly confines of Levy Arena Friday, January 22, at 6PM ET to host Johnston/North Providence Co-op in the second regular season matchup of the teams. The Chieftains beat J/NP 4-1 on January 9 as D’Alessio scored a pair of goals. East Providence will hunt for their first win of 2015-2016 tonight, January 16, as they face West Warwick/Exeter/West Greenwich Co-op at the West Warwick Civic Center at 9:00.
