NFL All-Time Top-50 Statistical Movement (Week 13 – 2015)

December 8, 2015
While Patriots QB Tom Brady passed Dan Marino for 3rd on the all-time TD passes list, Philadelphia RB Darren Sproles had a whopper of a game, returning a punt 83 yards for a score and amassing 215 total yards in the Eagles' 35-28 win at New England. While New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady snapped a tie with Dan Marino for 3rd-best in NFL touchdown passes with 423, a pair of pass-catchers reached milestones, accomplishing a feat only reached by ten players entering Week 13. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten became the 11th and 12th players in league history to reach, at least, 1,000 career receptions. While Fitzgerald tied Hines Ward with, exactly, 1,000 receptions, Witten moved into 10th place all-time with 1,003. The next receiver to reach the plateau will, likely, be Anquan Boldin, who is 11 receptions shy of 1,000.

Philadelphia Eagles running back/punt returner Darren Sproles had a monster outing in a 35-28 upset of the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA on Sunday. Sproles, in his 10th season out of Kansas State, rushed for 66 yards, caught four passes for 34 yards and returned five punts for 115 yards. His 83-yard punt return for a touchdown was the 7th of his career, tying Dave Meggett for 7th-best all-time and his 9th non-offensive touchdown, tying him with DeAngelo Hall, Jacoby Jones, Charles Tillman and nine others for 20th place in NFL history. With the 215 combined yards, the 32-year old “Lightning Bug”, also, passed Hall of Famer Marcus Allen for 11th place on the all-purpose yards list with 17,665.

Other milestones of note include San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers passing Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas for 16th on the passing yards list with 40,368, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Andre Johnson moved past Steve Smith with 13,964 receiving yards, 10th-best in league history, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin became the 18th player to surpass the 13,000 receiving yards plateau, Houston Texans punter Shane Lechler and Oakland Raiders defensive back Charles Woodson became the 41st and 42nd players to appear in 250 career games, Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri tied Jason Hanson for 3rd in field goals made (495) and Julius Peppers tied Lawrence Taylor and Leslie O’Neal for 12th in quarterback sacks with 132.5.
