Overshadowed by the New England Patriots’ overtime loss at Denver, which snapped their 10-0 start to the season, was another mark for the team’s future Hall of Fame quarterback, Tom Brady. The 16-year veteran from Michigan tied Dan Marino for third place on the league’s all-time touchdown passes list with 420 on the first play from scrimmage in the fourth quarter of their 30-24 overtime loss to the Broncos. On a 3rd-and-8 from the Patriots’ 37-yard line, Brady hit Brandon Bolden on a right-side wheel-route for a 63-yard score to give New England a 14-point lead, which would, eventually, evaporate. Brady will, likely, pass Marino for 3rd place this weekend as the Patriots face Philadelphia.

In Jacksonville, San Diego tight end Antonio Gates caught a pair of touchdown passes from Philip Rivers, his 102nd & 103rd, to move past Steve Largent and tied Hall of Famer Don Hutson for 18th-best all-time. Up next on the list for Gates, in his 13th season out of Kent State, is another Hall of Famer, Tim Brown, in 17th place with 105 touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson had another monster week for the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns as well as catching a pair of passes for 29 yards in a 20-10 win at Atlanta. The 30-year old Peterson, in his ninth NFL season out of Oklahoma, passed O.J. Simpson, Corey Dillon and John Riggins to move into 18th place on the league’s all-time rushing list as well as scoring his 98th and 99th touchdowns. In addition, the 187 yards from scrimmage moved him into 39th place all-time, passing Herschel Walker, Roger Craig, Corey Dillon, Steve Largent, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.

In other milestones, Philip Rivers became the 17th quarterback in league history to surpass the 40,000 passing yards mark and Aaron Rodgers’ 250th touchdown pass made him the 20th signal-caller in league history to achieve that feat. Also, Marques Colston became the 45th player to catch, at least, 700 balls, passing Joey Galloway for 44th place in the process and Calvin Johnson’s three scoring receptions vs. Philadelphia give him 80 for his stellar career, joining 23 other players to reach that milestone.
