What should have been a glorious day for Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning became, instead, a disaster. The future Hall of Famer passed Brett Favre for the most passing yards (71,871) in league history in the first quarter of the Broncos’ matchup with AFC West foe Kansas City, but was benched in the third quarter after throwing his fourth interception of the day. Manning, also, failed to pass Favre for the most wins as a starting quarterback in league history while moving past Jim Hart and Y.A. Tittle for 9th in interceptions thrown (251) in the 29-13 loss to the Chiefs. Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, on Monday, announced that Manning will not be on the team’s active roster for Sunday’s game at Chicago, due to a partially torn plantar fascia in the star’s left foot as well as sore ribs.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Steelers signal-caller Ben Roethlisberger was active for Sunday’s home game with Cleveland, but was listed as the backup to Landry Jones following a foot injury suffered in last week’s win over Oakland. Jones went down early and Roethlisberger showed no ill-effects in a 30-9 win over the Browns. In the victory, Big Ben passed Philip Rivers and Dan Fouts for 14th in passes completed (3,298), Matt Hasselbeck for 20th in pass attempts (5,165), Kerry Collins for 13th in passing yards (40,944) and tied Dave Krieg for 14th in touchdown passes (261).

Adrian Peterson had another monster week to move up the league’s all-time statistical lists, rushing for 203 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in the Minnesota Vikings’ 30-14 win at Oakland. Peterson passed Hall of Famers Curtis Martin and Eric Dickerson and tied Canton enshrinees Jerome Bettis and Franco Harris for 10th in rushing touchdowns (91) and tied Larry Fitzgerald and Dickerson for 23rd in total touchdowns (96), while passing Warrick Dunn for 21st in rushing yards (11,151), Clinton Portis for 28th in rush attempts (2,249) and Earnest Byner for 47th in yards from scrimmage (13,004).
