With Coastal Carolina enjoying a bye week, Illinois State strengthened their grip on second in the rankings after blasting Missouri State 38-2 at Plaster Stadium in Springfield, MO. Tre Robertson passed for 304 yards and three touchdowns, all to Anthony Warrum, and Marshaun Coprich rushed for 139 yards and two scores as the Redbirds (5-1, 3-0 MVFC) made the host’s Homecoming Day a miserable event on the gridiron. Illinois State built a 31-0 halftime lead and held the Bears (1-5, 0-3 MVFC) scoreless until 7:56 remaining in the game when freshman running back George Moreira was tackled in the end zone for a safety.

In Fargo, ND, Miles Bergner’s 33-yard field goal as time expired listed South Dakota to a 24-21 victory over third-ranked North Dakota State at the Fargodome. Following a missed 45-yard field goal by Cam Pederson with 12:10 to play, the Coyotes (3-3, 1-2 MVFC) marched 72 yards in 15 plays and tied the contest at 21 on Ryan Saeger’s 8-yard scoring pass to Drew Potter with 4:47 to play. The Bison (4-2, 2-1 MVFC) were forced to punt after a three-and-out on the next possession and South Dakota State converted a pair of third downs as part of a 55-yard drive to set up the winning field goal. Saeger passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns and added 92 yards rushing and another score for the Coyotes, who debut in the 2015 rankings at #25. Carson Wentz threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns for North Dakota State in the loss, which drops the four-time defending FCS champions to 7th in this week’s top-25.

Jacksonville State moves up to third after blasting Tennessee Tech 42-13 at Tucker Stadium in Cookeville, TN. Eli Jenkins threw for 184 yards and two scores while rushing for 86 yards and another score as the Gamecocks (5-1, 3-0 OVC) built a 26-6 halftime lead and never looked back. Troymaine Pope gained 89 yards on 13 totes and Jojo Wynn dashed for a 65-yard scamper in the fourth quarter as Jacksonville State stayed unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference and alive for a top seed in the upcoming FCS playoffs.

Cardon Johnson rushed for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns while backfield mate Khalid Abdullah added 75 rushing yards and two more scores as fifth-ranked James Madison scored early and often in a 51-0 waxing of Elon at Rhodes Stadium in Elon, NC and climbs a spot to fourth. Johnson scored on an 80-yard gallop on the visitors’ third play from scrimmage and the Dukes (7-0, 4-0 CAA) were off to the races. Vad Lee tossed a pair of touchdown strikes before removing the pads near the end of the third quarter as did most of his teammates. The Phoenix (2-5, 1-3 CAA) were shut out by an FCS opponent for the first time since a 21-0 loss at The Citadel on November 12, 2005.

South Dakota State returns to the top-five after dispatching #17 Youngstown State 38-8 at Stambaugh Stadium in Youngstown, OH. Kyle Paris tallied 128 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries while Taryn Christion rushed for 75 yards and a score while passing for 122 yards and another touchdown as the Jackrabbits (5-1, 2-1 MVFC) kept the Penguins (3-3, 1-2 MVFC) out of the end zone and sent the hosts to their second consecutive home loss against conference opponents. Despite the loss, Youngstown State remains in the top-25, dropping three spots to 20th.
