Two sure bets for the Pro Football Hall of Fame further etched their names in the history of the league in Week 5. San Diego tight end Antonio Gates, who missed the Chargers’ first four games of the 2015 season, returned in top form Monday night by catching two touchdown passes in a 24-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gates became the ninth player in league history to catch, at least, 100 touchdown passes after two scoring strikes from Philip Rivers and stands alone in seventh place with 101, passing three Hall of Famers: Don Hutson, Tim Brown and Steve Largent. Gates, also, became the 22nd player in league history to reach the end zone century mark, passing two other Canton enshrinees: Franco Harris and Curtis Martin and tying Largent for 19th all-time with 101.

Not to be outdone, Oakland Raiders free safety Charles Woodson intercepted another future Hall of Famer, Peyton Manning, twice in a 16-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Woodson, who began the day tied for ninth all-time in interceptions with Dick LeBeau and Dave Brown, passed Ronnie Lott and Darren Sharper and tied Ed Reed for sixth in league history with 64. Also, Woodson’s 11 return yards on his first pick of Manning moved him past Glen Edwards for 12th with 966 career interception return yards.

Other major milestones were reached by Frank Gore and Sebastian Janikowski. The Indianapolis running back passed John Riggins and Steven Jackson for 16th on the league’s rushing list (11,398) while the Oakland kicker passed Lou Groza for 15th in points (1,609).

Joining NFL greats of the current and past in the top-50 in passing yards is oft-maligned Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who passed Trent Green and Chris Chandler for 50th place (28,627). Also, cracking the top-50 is Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Andre Johnson, who caught a pair of touchdown passes against his former team, Houston, passing nine players including Hall of Famers Bobby Mitchell, Charlie Joiner and Michael Irvin and tying four others for 47th in career touchdown receptions (66).
