De’Angelo Henderson rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns as Coastal Carolina remains atop the rankings after a 31-17 victory over Bryant at Brooks Stadium in Conway, SC. The Chanticleers (4-0, 0-0 Big South) fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter, but scored the next 17 points on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Alex Ross to Bruce Mapp, a 1-yard run by Henderson and a 42-yard field goal from Ryan Granger. The Bulldogs (2-1, 0-0 NEC) tied the game on a 5-yard rush from Ricardo McCray with 31 seconds before halftime, but those would be the last points Bryant would score on the day. Henderson added another 1-yard score in the third quarter and Osharmar Abercrombie put the game out of reach for Coastal on a 22-yard gallop with 2:15 to play for the undefeated Chanticleers, who continue their non-conference schedule with Alabama A&M next Saturday.

While Illinois State and North Dakota State were idle and Villanova lost to Pennsylvania, Eli Jenkins threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score and Troymaine Pope rushed for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Jacksonville State held off Tennessee-Martin 48-41 at Graham Stadium in Martin, TN to move up a spot to fourth. The Gamecocks (3-1, 2-0 OVC) built a 48-20 lead with less than 11 minutes to play, but the Skyhawks (0-2, 0-1 OVC) rallied to within seven points with 4:26 remaining in regulation behind three passing touchdowns from Jarod Neal, who threw for four scores and 433 yards on the day. The visiting Gamecocks took the subsequent kickoff and extinguished the clock by calling eight consecutive running plays, including a 37-yard romp by Pope, to net three first downs and secure a tough road victory.

South Dakota State moves into the top-five as Zach Lujan passed for 395 yards and three touchdowns in a decisive 34-10 home win over Robert Morris at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings, SD. The Jackrabbits (3-0, 0-0 MVFC) held the visiting Colonials (1-3, 0-0 NEC) to 43 yards passing, but gave up 228 yards on the ground, exhibiting a “bend-but-don’t-break” defense that has allowed, only, 20 points over their last two contests. Isaac Wallace and Dalton Douglas added touchdown runs for South Dakota State, who will host third-ranked and four-time defending national champion North Dakota State next week.

In other action of note, as mentioned earlier, then-fourth ranked Villanova lost at home to Penn 24-13, James Madison defeated FBS program SMU 48-45, Montana topped Northern Arizona 23-14 in a battle of ranked Big Sky teams and William & Mary blanked Stony Brook 21-0.

Montana State whipped 12th-ranked Cal Poly 45-28 to debut in the rankings at #21 while the Mustangs drop to 22nd and Dartmouth becomes the second Ivy League school to crack the top-25 following their 49-7 dismantling of Sacred Heart.

Liberty drops out of the rankings after a surprising 34-13 loss at Southern Illinois and Northern Arizona falls from the ranks after their loss at Montana.
