As we approach the beginning of regional play on May 29, the only thing to be sure of when considering “who’s in” and “who’s out” is that nothing is set in stone. Sure, teams like LSU, UCLA, Texas A&M, Louisville and the rest of the top-ten will be playing baseball, likely, when the calendar turns to June.

The last couple of weeks of the regular season, as well as conference tournaments, can throw a monkey wrench into everyone’s plans. To quote the great Geddy Lee, “He knows changes aren’t permanent, but change is.”

And, so it goes with our third regionals projection. Seven of last week’s eight national seeds retain their honor while Vanderbilt replaces UC Santa Barbara as the final seed. There are no new sites this week, as all 16 regional hosts remain the same, but with, mostly, different Super Regional matchups.

One note to consider: with four west sites projected as hosts (Los Angeles I and II, Santa Barbara and Tempe), there is the possibility of an, otherwise, hosting team moving to another venue with the host getting the number two regional seed. In other words, UC Santa Barbara, USC or Arizona State may be forced to play as a 1-seed at a site such as Houston, Charleston, SC, Iowa City or College Park, MD. We’re, still, less than four weeks away from the selection of the field, so the note may be premature.

Liberty, slotted as a 3-seed at Stillwater last week, slips out of this week’s projection and is replaced by Oregon State.
