2014 Week 13 FCS Top-25 Rankings (11/17-11/23)

November 17, 2014

The strong stayed strong in the next-to-last week of the FCS regular season as the top 14 teams notched victories and remained in the same positions as Week 12.

Top-ranked Coastal Carolina (WRs Tyrell Blanks and Bruce Mapp pictured left) danced in the end zone early and often to whip Monmouth 52-21 and will face Liberty, who fell out of the top-25 after a home loss to Charleston Southern, for the Big South title and automatic bid. #2 New Hampshire hammered Delaware 43-14 to clinch, at least, a share of the CAA crown. Third-ranked Eastern Washington was idle, yet had their chances for the outright Big Sky championship improve after Northern Arizona lost at North Dakota. #4 North Dakota State rebounded from their first loss in 34 games to pummel Missouri State 45-10 and #5 Jacksonville State held off upset-minded Eastern Illinois and earned the Ohio Valley automatic bid.

Sixth-ranked Villanova staked its claim for a first-round bye with an easy 48-31 win over Albany, #7 Chattanooga, having already clinched the Southern Conference title, won easily at Tennessee Tech, 38-17. Patriot League champion Fordham, ranked eighth, crushed Georgetown 52-7. #9 Northern Iowa, fresh off their upset of previously unbeaten North Dakota State, cruised to an easy 40-21 win at Southern Illinois and 10th-ranked Montana State barely held off #25 Idaho State 44-39. Despite the loss, the Bengals remained in the rankings.

While #11 Illinois State, #12 Southeastern Louisiana and #13 Montana cruised to easy conference wins, 14th-ranked Eastern Kentucky squeaked by Murray State 43-36.

#19 Harvard remained undefeated (along with top-ranked Coastal Carolina) with a 34-24 victory at Pennsylvania. 21st-ranked South Dakota State had no problems with Western Illinois, blasting the Leathernecks 59-24. #24 Indiana State opened overtime vs, #15 Youngstown State with an interception and, subsequently, kicked a game-winning field goal for a 27-24 victory and #23 James Madison gave their playoff chances a boost with a big 55-20 win at #17 Richmond.

Sacred Heart defeated #20 Bryant 14-7 to win the Northeast Conference and make their 2014 debut in the rankings at #19. Sam Houston State returned to the top-25 at #21 after a 76-0 thrashing of Houston Baptist. North Carolina A&T vaulted into the rankings for the first time in 2014 as the MEAC leaders sit at #22 after a 34-0 victory over winless Savannah State. William & Mary re-entered the top-25 at #23 with an easy win at Towson and sets up a regular-season finale with Richmond with the loser of the game likely to be left out of the playoff field.

With losses, #16 McNeese State, #18 Liberty, #20 Bryant and #22 Northern Arizona fell out of this week’s rankings.
